Mr Smith and the Fall

When Mr Smith and I met, I was instantly smitten with him.  Although it was platonic, it felt like a first date.  He bought me a present, more than one in fact, we had dinner, went to the theatre and stayed in the theatre bar drinking until the reality of the last train was looming.

He could see straight through my defences, I felt alive with more than a hint of fear.

Another married man did not float my boat, and above all our friendship was near-perfect.

The flirting had to stop.

I spent the next week, with my heart left out to heal and ultimately harden.
